Presidents Letter - Aug 09

General News

Hello Fellow Members,
What a great summer spent with family and friends, old and new.  Jeff was able to take time off from work (long overdue). We travelled and did home improvements.   It took 3 planes to get to Colorado (yes, everyone did survive), but it was well worth what waited for us when we got there. The beauty of the mountains, the fresh, cool air, and my mom’s smiling face.  Jeff, the kids, and I were fortunate enough to experience a 4 day music concert (totally powered by wind) featuring some of the world’s most talented artists in a natural setting that compares to nothing I have ever experienced. We took the kids to the dinosaur museum in Verner, Utah. If you are ever in Utah, this is not to be missed.
Thank you to everyone who came out for the Ice Cream Social on July 9th. It was a rainy night and the power was out at Volunteer Park. However, a group of us sat together in the dark, in an ever growing warm room having ice cream, cake, and great conversation. We even had a new mom, Tanya Liu mother of 5 weeks twins, venture out. Thank you, Michelle Hartman and Karrie Badal for getting the ice cream and to all of you for bringing the fixins!
Who else is looking forward to August? As much as I love my children, I am ready for them to go to school. For those with kids who will still be at home, I bet you’ll be happy to have your special places back without so many older kids there. LOL! Join us on August 13th for an exciting meeting with our guest speaker Ellen Briggs, author of Are Your Kids Running on Empty? I am personally looking forward to her insights on providing great lunch box ideas. I don’t know about you, but who couldn’t use a little help? Please come and share your success stories, and not so successful lunch ideas.  There will also be a garage sale (October 9th & 10th) meeting at 6pm prior to the club meeting.
The old and new board members worked together to plan a fun filled year of activities and events. Future events at Volunteer Park, 2nd Thursday of the month, beginning at 7pm, include: September 10th - Kung Fu demonstration and participation & a garage sale meeting at 6pm, October 8th- Unfinished Objects theme, October 9th & 10th garage sale at Plantation Community Center, October 24th – Children’s Halloween Party (details to follow), November 12th- twin panel, December 5th- Children’s Holiday party (details to follow), December 12th- Adult Holiday Party at Lori Ortiz. We’ll keep you posted on the details of the events.
It’s renewal time. Please fill out the enclosed membership form. I’m looking to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Suzi Figley
